The Windows Vista™ Hardware Assessment solution accelerator is an inventory, assessment, and reporting tool that can help you effectively determine the number of computers on a network that are ready to run the Windows Vista operating system. The Windows Vista Hardware Assessment uses technologies available in Microsoft® Windows®. These technologies include Microsoft Active Directory® Domain Services, the Computer Browser service, the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). It does not require the deployment of agents to perform an assessment.

Installing the Solution AcceleratorThe Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation of application files and installation of SQL Server 2005 Express. The Windows Vista Hardware Assessment requires a non-default instance of SQL Server 2005 Express. If the computer is already running another instance of SQL Server 2005 Express, the setup wizard must still install a new instance. This instance is customized for exclusive use by the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard, and it should not be modified. |
Uninstalling the Solution AcceleratorUse the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Setup Wizard to uninstall the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment. The setup wizard will provide the options to remove the SQL Server 2005 Express instance and delete files created by the application. The SQL Server 2005 common installation files will not be removed during uninstall, but can be manually uninstalled by clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon on the Control Panel (the Programs and Features icon in Windows Vista). |
