Download critical components installer
You have arrived at this page for one of several reasons:
- Updates to the Windows Update site control and/or architecture may have caused this error message to appear. Please refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q243787 for more information and steps to resolve this issue.
- You chose not to download the software controls or there was a problem with downloading the controls, in which case much of the Windows Update site will be unavailable to you. If you would like to download the controls now, please click the Try again link, above.
- You may not have the latest version of Microsoft virtual machine installed on your computer. To download the latest version,
- click the Download Microsoft virtual machine link, above.
- If you choose "Run this program from its current location", the installer will automatically install the critical components onto your system.
- If you choose "Save this program to disk", you will be prompted for a directory to download the installer. When download is completed, double-click msjavx86.exe to install the critical components.
OR
- Your Internet Explorer security settings are set too high. In order to use the Windows Update site, you need to set your security settings at Medium or lower. To change your security settings:
- From the
View
menu on the toolbar, choose Internet Options.
- Click the Security tab, and then select Internet zone in the drop-down box.
- Click Medium.
- Click OK.
- Click the Try again link, above.
If this problem persists, your system might be missing some critical components. Please follow the instructions below to download the critical component installer and then retry.
- Click the Download critical components installer link, above.
- If you choose "Run this program from its current location", the installer will automatically install the critical components.
- If you choose "Save this program to disk", you will be prompted for a directory to download the installer. When download is completed, double-click advpack.exe to install the critical components.
