You have arrived at this page for one of several reasons:
  1. Updates to the Windows Update site control and/or architecture may have caused this error message to appear. Please refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q243787 for more information and steps to resolve this issue.

  2. You do not have administrative privileges for this computer. To use Windows Update, you should contact your system administrator to update your software. If you do have administrative privileges, your problem may be caused by a different issue, outlined below.

  3. You chose not to download the software controls or there was a problem with downloading the controls, in which case much of the Windows Update site will be unavailable to you. If you would like to download the controls now, please click the Try again link, above.


    OR

  4. Your Internet Explorer security settings are set too high. In order to use the Windows Update site, you need to set your security settings at Medium or lower. To change your security settings:
    1. From the Tools menu on the toolbar, choose Internet Options.
    2. Click the Security tab, and then select the Internet zone icon.
    3. Set the slider to Medium.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Click the Try again link, above.
